ST. LOUIS, MO – JULY, 12, 2017 – Accella Tire Fill Systems (www.accellatirefill.com), a division of Accella Performance Materials, has fulfilled another year in its ongoing dedication to planting new trees in partnership with American Forests, the nation’s oldest non-profit conservation organization. Teaming up with its customers, aftermarket dealers and distributors around the world, Accella – which is the leading manufacturer of eco-friendly polyurethane tire fill for pneumatic tires – to date has planted more than 142,000 new trees to help restore forests destroyed by natural disasters. The initiative is part of the company’s industry-leading “One Tote, One Tree” green campaign (www.onetoteonetree.org), through which one tree is planted for every tote of Accella’s tire fill product purchased.
For 2017, Accella’s donation is helping American Forests in its work with the US Forest Service to plant more than 40,000 whitebark pines in Shoshone National Forest, which is part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in Wyoming. The restoration of the Shoshone’s Wind River Ranger District is part of a decade-long reforestation project, countering the blister rust and mountain pine beetles that have decimated the area and led to tree mortality exceeding 80 percent in some places. These conditions increase susceptibility to wildfire, and the Burroughs Creek Fire there in fall 2013 destroyed more than 1,700 acres.
“Accella Tire Fill Systems continues to prove itself a steadfast partner to American Forests, consistently demonstrating the great role of corporate responsibility and how it helps us accomplish our timely and critical work,” said Lea Sloan, VP of Communications, American Forests. “Accella’s `One Tote, One Tree’ program is a perfect example of how a company can include its customers and affiliates in the effort to give back to the environment, in a particularly sustaining manner. Accella’s choice to focus on the whitebark pine reforestation is especially exciting as these special trees not only provide habitat to a wide variety of species – the Shoshone is home to the largest population of bighorn sheep and some of the last remaining grizzly bears in the contiguous US – but these pines also act as ecosystem rejuvenators after wildfire. This is essential reforestation at its finest.”
Accella Tire Fill Systems is dedicated to improving sustainability across the global Off-the-Road (OTR) tire marketplace. In its 45+ year history, Accella has become the industry’s market leader in tire fill solutions by focusing on developing eco-friendly flatproofing alternatives for industrial, construction and mining vehicles, along with other Off-the-Road equipment. The company’s patented TyrFil™ flatproofing solution may be pumped into any pneumatic tire to replace air with a resilient, synthetic elastomer core, ensuring both robust tire performance and less solid tire waste going into landfills. The result is increased comfort for heavy equipment operators, improved performance and safety, defrayed operator costs and better protection for the environment.
“As a zero waste, zero emission manufacturer, Accella Tire Fill Systems is dedicated to sustainability as a long-term strategic business focus, and partnering with American Forests is a natural extension of that orientation,” noted Joe Negrey, Vice President of Accella Tire Fill Systems. “Our `One Tote, One Tree’ program exemplifies this philosophy by enabling our global network of distributors, OEMs and aftermarket dealers to join the effort to heal damaged fire zones like the Shoshone National Forest. Together, we are illustrating how businesses can turn innovation and sustainability into a winning formula, for the company and for the planet.”

About Accella™ TyrFil™ Flatproofing
Accella shapes ideas that enhance our lives through improved comfort, safety, sustainability and performance. Accella Tire Fill Systems manufactures the only shock absorbing, flatproofing solution – TyrFil. TyrFil™ flatproofing is a polyurethane liquid that is pumped into pneumatic tires to replace air with a resilient, synthetic elastomer core – eliminating dangerous and costly flat tires on OTR equipment while offering a smoother, safer flatproofed ride. Since TyrFil™ flatproofing extends tire life, it reduces the need for tire replacement and drastically eases environmental strain by helping to keep whole tire and scrap tire waste – and the unwanted emissions and carbon footprint they create – out of domestic and international landfills. With TyrFil, “it’s what’s inside that counts.”
About American Forests
Founded in 1875, American Forests has served as a catalyst for many key milestones in the conservation movement, including the founding of the US Forest Service, the national forest and national park systems, and literally thousands of forest ecosystem restoration projects and public education efforts. Since 1990, American Forests has planted more than 50 million trees in forests throughout the US and in dozens of countries, resulting in cleaner air and drinking water, restored habitat for wildlife and fish, and the removal of millions of tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
